Strange title… anyway, Bellinzona is a rather lovely historic town in Switzerland. It’s famous for its three castles, Castelgrande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro and they are located near to the border with Italy. I was exploring them this morning.
Yes, I was exploring medieval castles in Switzerland whilst I was standing in my laundry room waiting for the washer to finish its cycle. This was, of course, thanks to my phone and Google Arts & Culture. Do you have the app? (It’s free).
Although the service was started quite a few years ago, it’s only due to the current restrictions on travel that I’ve found it quite enthralling. When Google Arts and Culture was developed, the basic idea was to bring the treasures of the world into our homes.
As the years have gone by, this has improved so much into interactive exhibitions and the facility to let us wander through the world without leaving our homes (or our laundry rooms).
Of course, Google being Google, the Arts and Culture service has come in for a fair amount of criticism although none of this is valid, especially when you consider the positive that it brings to us. I love using the app, at my advanced age, but the service has many features that are very suitable for kids. (Great if you are home-schooling your kids).
I see no problem with introducing the art of the world to everyone, especially at an early age.
Get the app from the App Store or visit the website to download.
