You never know, one day you might find yourself in the Polish village of Nowe Czarnowo. It’s just outside the town of Gryfino not far from the German border – see the map below.

This isn’t an ancient forest. The trees, about four hundred of them, were planted in the 1930s. They are, apart from their weird shapes, just regular pines. And nobody knows why they grew to the strange shapes you see in the image above.

There are those why believe that it was activity by aliens that made the trees grown this way. But there again, there are those who blame aliens for anything at all unusual. So I suspect that we can discount that theory.

Others believe that it was some sort of weather phenomenon that deformed the trees – a freak snowstorm has been mooted.
