If you’re visiting Florence, then the chances are that the Piazza della Signoria will be on your to-do list. This ancient piazza abounds with the most fabulous architecture, sculpture and history. Every day the piazza is bustling with travellers and locals who still use the area as a meeting place.

Plus, there is a giant golden turtle. Yep.

The sculpture, entitled  Searching for Utopia, was created by controversial Belgian artist Jan Fabre. It’s certainly a sight to behold amidst the antiquity of this ancient square and contrasts strangely with classical sculptures such as a copy of Michaelangelo’s David.

You can see reviews and photographs here.

Unless you speak Italian, you’ll get the most out of the area by joining a guided tour. The area is so rich in culture and the arts so a tour is the idea way to make the most of every moment.
