Way back in 1990, Flo Hayler started collecting Ramones memorabilia. He collected tickets and t-shirts, posters and pants. These were to form the basis of the Ramones Museum in Berlin.

Yes, you’re right of course, the Ramones are mostly associated with their American home town (NYC) but the bass player spent a considerable period of time in Berlin, hence the connection. Bass player Dee Dee Ramone is described as a German-American and died from a heroin overdose on June 5, 2002.

His father had been an American soldier stationed in Germany; his mother was a German woman and Dee Dee (or Douglas as he was then) lived in Germany until he was fifteen years old.

In addition to the collection, which now houses over 1,000 items, the museum is also occasionally used as a concert venue.
