Are you considering renting out your spare room or other accommodation? Are you thinking about using Airbnb to advertise your rental? If so, then you’ve probably seen the videos that the company produces in order to show hosts what fun they can have entertaining and meeting people from all over the world.

I love being a host and I’ve met so many people. But are the Airbnb videos you see really reflecting the reality of why people host strangers in their homes?

Often, guests and hosts are shown in the videos drinking wine together, cooking together and some even show hosts acting as tour guides and taking their guests to see the local sights. But is this reality? Why do people decide to open their homes to strangers?

Below you can see a new video in which several real Airbnb hosts are explaining why they host, what they enjoy and, more to the point, why they do it. Scroll down to see the video.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE A SUPER-SOCIABLE PERSON TO HOST ON AIRBNB?

Frankly, those videos showing guests and hosts making omelettes and fresh garden salads together are not the norm. Although I’m sure it happens sometimes – that guests and hosts get on famously and enjoy experiences together – it isn’t what most hosts, or guests are looking for.

The ideas of homesharing and living like a local are lovely but you don’t have to ‘entertain’ your guests in that way if it’s doesn’t suit your style. And believe it or not, many guests are attracted to Airbnb for several reasons but still like to have their privacy.

Watch the video below to see real hosts telling their stories and why they host.
