Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd created The Knotted Gun, also known as Non-Violence, after the shooting of John Lennon in 1980. As an activist for peace, Lennon would have been appalled at the situation with guns today, especially in his adopted homeland, the USA.

The sculpture says it all though and there are a total of 22 copies of it in prominent locations all over the world including the USA, China, Germany and Mexico amongst others although there are 14 located throughout Sweden.

The sculpture became even more well known when, in 1996, it became the official symbol for the Non-Violence Project.

This non-profit organization aims to help prevent violence via educational initiatives throughout the world. Three of the organisation’s ambassadors are John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, and his former bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
