The International Movie Database lists Shawshank Redemption as the number one most popular film. Other lists disagree but just about everyone I knew simply loves the movie.

This is why I was delighted to discover The Shawshank Trail – a driving tour where you too can visit the locations where the the film was made – including the fearsome prison.

Although the book was set in Maine, Ohio was used for the movie location and the prison was not just an elaborate sound stage. The now-defunct Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield and many other famous and iconic scenes were created in the immediate area.
