What you see above is probably the most famous pedestrian crossing in the world. Recorded in 1969, Abbey Road was an album by the Beatles and the cover featured the four band members walking across the road on the crossing.

Use the map below to locate the crossing our join an organised tour.

This famous photograph added fuel to the fire regarding the ‘Paul is dead;’ conspiracy theory. Theorists claimed that the fact that McCartney was barefoot confirmed that the person in the photograph was an imposter and that it was true that Paul had died in a car accident in November 1966. (I have never understood why being barefoot indicated this!)

In addition, they noted that John Lennon was wearing white, a colour of mourning. In fact, Lennon, McCartney and Starr were all wearing suits tailored by Tommy Nutter, the most fashionable couturier of the day.
