York is a truly amazing place. It’s packed with history, ancient architecture, museums, parks … there are fabulous places to eat, the local scenery is unbeatable and it’s even a great place to shop. Bizarrely, you can also – free of charge – enjoy hunting for cats.

No, they’re not real cats but statues. Legend has it that York’s original cat statues were put onto rooftops and on the tops of walls to scare aware pigeons and rats. Others claim that they were placed around the city just as an amusement for children. No one really knows – indeed, no one knows the exact number of cat statues that are dotted about the city.

Although kids love the Cat Trail, adults too find it fascinating. READ REVIEWS HERE.
