If you’re travelling to Budapest and like quirky accommodation at a budget price then add the Lavender Circus to your wishlist right now. It’s wonderfully located near the Danube and everything you’ll want to see. But the price and the amazing decor make it even more exciting.

The building dates from the late nineteenth century and the interior has been decorated by artists, sculptors and graphic designers to make this into a splendidly visual experience at a fabulous price. There are double rooms, small apartments and the Lavender Circus also operated hostel-type accommodation.

The latter means that there’s a common room – with constant free coffee and tea – plus a communal kitchen that offers another valuable amenity to the budget traveller. Shops are nearby so guests can whip up their own meals to save on eating out. Of course, there’s also free wifi throughout the entire building.

There are regular Hungarian dinner parties held here to give travellers a taste of the local cuisine (and wine of course) and guests can learn how to prepare traditional local dishes.

There are laundry facilities – very useful if you’re on a road trip or prefer to travel light – there are hairdryers, a book exchange and the staff are happy to help you plan your day. There are even bike tours available.

You can get some idea of how your accommodation will be by checking out the images below. Don’t you want to add this to your wish list straight away?

Note that one or two reviewers have mentioned that there’s no elevator in the building. This isn’t a problem but it’s as well to be aware. Mind you, for the Lavender Circus, their philosophy tends to be ‘never mind, we’ll make one’. See the image below!
