Recently I’ve been talking to people in Mandarin, Greek, Danish, Russian and more. No, I’m not a linguistic genius – my language capabilities stop at school-taught French plus being able to ask for a glass of wine in most European languages 😉

It’s all thanks to the Speak and Translate app. It features just about every language you can imagine and lets you have great conversations with almost anyone, despite the language they speak. It even, for example, distinguishes between Spanish and Mexican Spanish.

It’s easy to use. I speak into the app and it translates instantly into whatever language I have selected. The translation is shown on the screen and the app also speaks the translation too. Pass it to the person you’re talking to and they do the same. It’s almost magical.

Because the translator shows the words on the screen, you can copy and paste the translation into emails, or any other app you have on your phone. It’s invaluable for Airbnb hosts (and guests) because you can copy and paste the text into the Airbnb app and literally, nothing is lost in translation.

It’s really simple to use and the best part of this is that it’s free. There is a paid version ($9.99 at the time of my purchase) which allows you more translations per day and if you’re traveling, or often meeting or hosting people who don’t speak English, then I’d recommend the paid version. It’s is well worth the small cost.
